With ICANN approving the IDN TLD for Russia, i hope this will start a “fast” flow of other TLD and GTLD’s being introduced in quick sucession. My understanding is that Russia will implement .РФ in June 2009. Then i am assuming they will offer all of thier 2LD’s in Cyrillic
Russia already have 2 other TLDs .ru and .su so this may cause some issues if there is no policy implemented prior to implementation.
I would sugest that .ru, .su and .PФ all go to the same records hence creating less confusion and assisting those who may not have the ability to write Cyrillic to use an alternative. These issues will be the norm during the initial stages of IDN implementation. Eventually i hope we will have a set of “Best Practice” for IDN implementation.
